Used mainly on anterior teeth, veneers consist of a thin layer of tooth coloured material, usually a ceramic or composite, which is placed over the front surface of a tooth and cemented in place. They can improve the aesthetics of heavily restored, discoloured or misshapen teeth. They may be available on the NHS in some cases, but are often provided on a private basis for aesthetic improvements.
