We refer our patients outwith the practice to specialists for the placement of dental implants, but we can restore those implants with crowns and bridges in the practice. Implants are small titanium rods that are place into the jawbone(s) to help replace a missing tooth or teeth. They emulate the root of the tooth and are restored with a precision-fit crown or bridge. They can also be used to help retain and support a denture.
Good oral hygiene is imperative when considering implants. Like teeth, implants can get gum disease if not cleaned well. It is recommended that patients with implants attend with our hygienist every 3-6 months. If looked after well, implants should be in place for life but, like teeth, maintenance is needed and occasionally components, such as the crowns may need replaced.
